Is there any way to purge the tezos-node mempool of transactions whose fees are too low?

I'm playing with making my own wallet and I sometimes send poorly-constructed transactions to my tezos-node, where I've mistakenly set the fee too low. Then any follow-up transactions get invalid counter errors until the node finally deletes the offending transaction after an hour or so.

Is there any way to tell my node not to accept my transactions when the fees are too low? If not, is there some way to flush these transactions out of the mempool? If not, can I set the transaction purging period to something like 2 minutes, instead of an hour or whatever it is now?

(I can use multiple clients as a workaround, but it's pretty annoying!)

Thanks!
